  • Customer identifies the need for alternative energy supply

  • FactorySmart liaises with customer to receive a year’s worth of utility bills
  • Once utility bills are received FactorySmart analyses and confirms what size solar solution is required – PV
  • To confirm the analyses a metering device is installed on site of customer
  • Information received from metering device is compared to the original analyses and a quotation for an energy solution is supplied to customer
  • If customer requires a Power of Purchase Agreement (PPA), then financials are received from customer
  • If customer is happy with financial proposal, a roof inspection is done to ascertain whether the structure is strong enough for the solar panels to be mounted on.
  • After analyses, if everything is in order, installation is completed.

Why factory roofs are ideal

Though it’s clear that solar makes sense for factories to make use of on paper, they are also a great use case due to the style of roof most commonly associated with large commercial buildings. With most factories having larger, flatter, roofs with ample roof space, offering an ideal installation site for solar panels.

Conversely, roof layouts in smaller buildings may cause issues with solar system installations – drastically angled roofs and skylights limit the area where solar panels can be installed. Additionally, solar panels should ideally be installed facing a certain direction to maximize sunlight exposure, which isn’t always an option with smaller angled roofs. The large, flat surface area of a factory building also results in fewer issues caused by shading from overhead trees and can make for an easier and faster system installation.
