We Offer

Grid-Tied Solar Systems

This is one of the most cost effective solar power solutions where solar panels and a dedicated grid-tied inverter feed directly into your distribution board and offset your power costs. This can save between 30 to 50% on your electricity bill. However, it does not function in the event of power interruption.

Off-Grid Solar Systems

This is system is disconnected from the utility and is dependent on sunny skies for energy. Consequently, it is not commercially viable in all cases.

A Combination Of Solutions

This hybrid system provides the best of the savings of a grid-tied system, but with back-up power addressing the business continuity component.

Give Your Factory The Gift Of Energy Security

Are you tired of dreading the next load shedding schedule? Are your manufacturing energy bills too high to allow you growth opportunities.

We will Install a measuring device that allows you to manage your factories energy output.

Power your factory with up to 1 megawatt of solar power and enjoy reliable energy for your production needs.

Our process

  • Customer identifies the need for alternative energy supply
  • Contacts FactorySmart
  • FactorySmart liaises with customer to receive a year’s worth of utility bills
  • Once utility bills are received FactorySmart analyses and confirms what size solar solution is required – PV
  • To confirm the analyses a metering device is installed on site of customer
  • Information received from metering device is compared to the original analyses and a quotation for an energy solution is supplied to customer
  • If customer requires a Power of Purchase Agreement (PPA), then financials are received from customer
  • If customer is happy with financial proposal, a roof inspection is done to ascertain whether the structure is strong enough for the solar panels to be mounted on.
  • After analyses, if everything is in order, installation is completed.

South Africa has the potential to be a leader of solar power. As a continent, Africa is blessed with long durations of sunshine. The continent receives more hours of valuable sunshine during the course of one year than any other continent.  Solar as a source of energy is a cleaner, and an often cheaper, variant of power that once deployed provides institutions with an excellent opportunity to grow their business.

Factories have been among the world’s biggest consumers of energy. As a result of the high energy costs associated with manufacturing, many CEOs (such as Tesla’s Elon Musk) have identified solar power as the perfect way to bring about a decrease in operating costs.

Solar power is good for the environment.

Understand the true current economic impact on your business operating models. Adjust your business plans to accommodate for digital transformation of sales, service and people management.

Solar power improves grid security.

One day, all solar installations may feed into the national grid as we can already see in some municipalities such as Johannesburg, Cape Town, and some rural Eskom areas.

Solar panels are perfectly suited for commercial operations

The decline in solar power pricing around the globe has lent to much excitement across many production focused industries. At the end of 2016, solar power became the cheapest energy source in the world, surpassing wind and its fossil fuel counterparts like natural gas. There is though still much skepticism about solar when it comes to the questions of what to do for power supply at night or during bad weather when the sun is not shining. While net metering and new storage solutions help to remedy that problem, many homeowners still rely on grid-sourced electricity for part of the day.

When it comes to commercial applications such as corporate offices and manufacturing efforts, the power of solar is that energy use occurs during the day. Large commercial plants are able to benefit from solar power without needing to buy a storage solution to cover nighttime energy usage. When a factory’s energy use is at its highest, a solar powered system will equivalently be at peak production. Whereas at night, the facility requires little energy while the solar system is dormant.

Why factory roofs are ideal

Though it’s clear that solar makes sense for factories to make use of on paper, they are also a great use case due to the style of roof most commonly associated with large commercial buildings. With most factories having larger, flatter, roofs with ample roof space, offering an ideal installation site for solar panels.

Conversely, roof layouts in smaller buildings may cause issues with solar system installations – drastically angled roofs and skylights limit the area where solar panels can be installed. Additionally, solar panels should ideally be installed facing a certain direction to maximize sunlight exposure, which isn’t always an option with smaller angled roofs. The large, flat surface area of a factory building also results in fewer issues caused by shading from overhead trees and can make for an easier and faster system installation.
